Spider Veins are the most common type of visible vein. Spider veins are really tiny veins that are in the outer layer of skin close to the surface, so you can see them. Unfortunately, most people are going to get them in their lifetime, bummer. These veins get their name because they look like thin, weblike blue and purple lines on the legs- just like a spiders web.
Varicose Veins are larger veins that are deeper in the body. You won’t typically see these veins until they are so stretched that they bulge out. Patients who have varicose veins almost always have spider veins, too. These typically need a more intensive treatment.
A number of factors contribute to a person having leg veins. These include:
- Occupations that involve a lot of standing, such as nurses, hair stylists, teachers, and factory workers
- Hormonal influences of pregnancy, puberty, and menopause
- The use of birth control pills
- Postmenopausal hormonal replacement
- A history of blood clots
How Does Vein Removal Therapy Work?
The Cutera Laser system delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel. The vessel will then be reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will be redirected to deeper veins where it should be. At our office, we treat spider veins and smaller varicose veins on the legs and feet.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being?treated. At Da Vinci Foot & Ankle, we have multiple packages available based on your individual needs.
Do the treatments hurt?
Most patients experience only mild discomfort. No local anesthesia or pain medication is required. Following the treatment, there is usually no pain to minimal discomfort.
What are the possible side effects?
The most common side effects are slight redness and swelling of the treated area lasting for less than 24 hours. Occasionally there may be bruising and, in rare cases, blistering may occur.
When will I see results?
Results vary, but most patients experience significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. With smaller vessels you may see immediate results. Final results may not be apparent?for several months as some veins require 2 – 4 laser treatments to remove the unsightly veins.
Our physicians are Cutera Laser certified, including Laser Vein Removal treatments, and we can discuss your laser options if conservative measures have failed to give you the results you’re looking for.
