Laser Hair Removal
Maintaining a hairless appearance can be nearly impossible and can turn into a full-time job if you let it. Constantly shaving and waxing can add strain to your skin, and leave you spending even more money on skincare in the end with upkeep. Luckily, there is a permanent hair removal solution: The Cutera XEO Laser
The Cutera XEO Laser is our most advanced laser technology at Da Vinci Foot and Ankle. We use it for a variety of things, but one of the most common is for removing unwanted body hair on the legs and feet.
Our lasers target and destroy the hair follicles, which eliminates hair growth. An easy and virtually painless experience for you that will last a lifetime.
What does it feel like?
Laser Hair Removal treatment feels like a mild sting for a fraction of a second. There is a built-in cooling tip on the machine that protects the skin and helps to minimize discomfort. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well & have no discomfort after treatment is done at all. Sensitivity to pain varies greatly between people & even for different areas of the body. Therefore, numbing cream is available for purchase if you prefer.
How long do the treatments take?
Laser Hair Removal treatments last from 30 to 60 minutes. Follow up treatments are typically shorter (and less expensive) because there is much less hair to treat.
How many treatments are necessary?
While the number of treatments for optimal long-term benefits depends on hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle, legs normally require 6 to 8 treatments. Not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. The laser works by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments are necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.
What results can I expect?
Treatment results may vary among patients. For some this may mean a significant decrease in the frequency with which you must shave. For others it may mean permanent cosmetic improvement because hair re-growth is minimal, very fine or completely absent. On average, most patients will lose 20-30% of actively growing hair, permanently with each treatment. Everyone will have some re-growth, with time, regardless of the technology used. Hair that grows back will tend to be much finer, much lighter and much less concentrated.
Are there any restrictions after treatment?
Normal activities may resume immediately after treatment. You should minimize friction over the treated area & avoid direct sun exposure of the treated area for 48 hours after treatment.
What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment you may experience what seems to be regrowth of hair. Actually, most of these hairs are being shed as a result of your treatment and are not re-growing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.
Will my skin scar or blister?
With any laser, this is a possibility. However, with our lasers this is very unlikely because they are much gentler on the skin than most lasers that remove hair. Although patients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn. These effects typically last for several hours or less.
If I have light hair (e.g. blonde, grey, red) will I see reduction?
Unfortunately, patients with light colored hair see minimal to no results. Hair removal works when there is color in the hair. The laser is attracted to the melanin (dark pigment) in the hair follicle. Dark hair responds best and white or blonde hair does not respond at all because these light hairs do not have enough melanin for the laser to see and destroy the follicle. We recommend electrolysis for any white or blonde hairs you would like removed.
