What to Expect
What does it feel like?
Laser Hair Removal is typically explained as feeling like a mild sting for a fraction of a second. There is a built-in cooling tip on the machine that protects the skin and helps to minimize discomfort. Most of our patients tolerate the laser treatment well and have no discomfort after it is finished. Sensitivity to pain does vary between people therefore, numbing cream is available for purchase if you prefer.
How long do the treatments take?
Our Laser Hair Removal treatments last from 30 to 60 minutes. Follow up treatments are typically shorter (and less expensive) because there is much less hair to treat.
How many treatments are necessary?
The number of treatments for optimal long-term benefits depend on hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle. From our treatment we have experienced that legs normally require 6 to 8 treatments.
Are there any restrictions after treatment?
The great thing about our treatment is there is no down time whatsoever. Normal activities may resume immediately proceeding treatment. You should minimize friction over the treated area & avoid direct sun exposure for 48 hours after treatment.
What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen but this will subside. Within a week of your treatment, you may notice what looks like regrowth, but is actually shedding. This is to be expected and nothing to be alarmed about. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.
Is Laser For You?
Am I a good candidate if I have light hair?
Unfortunately, patients with light colored hair see minimal to no results. Hair removal works when there is color in the hair. The laser is attracted to the melanin (dark pigment) in the hair follicle. Dark hair responds best and white or blonde hair does not respond at all because these light hairs do not have enough melanin for the laser to see and destroy the follicle. We recommend electrolysis for any white or blonde hairs you would like removed.
We recommend the laser hair removal process in the Fall because it’s the perfect time to take the coming seasons to cover any redness or swelling to get summer ready legs by Spring.
