One of our success stories from the Dominican Republic! Through our non profit, Surgeons of Service, we prevented an unnecessary surgery on 2 year old Steven by using various braces. He was already scheduled to have double osteotomies on both legs when we first saw him in the clinic (top left pic). During this encounter, we took a plaster mold of his foot & leg and advised his parents to postpone surgery. On our subsequent visit 6 months later, we fitted him with the custom brace (top right pic) that we had made in the states. With the help of The Samana Smiles Foundation, we located a pedorthotist (2 hours away) who was able to fit him with above knee braces. We followed up with Steven in February 2016, and you can see that the before and after pictures speak for themselves.
