Ankle Sprain

A sprained ankle is an injury that occurs when you roll, twist or turn your ankle in a way that causes the ligaments around it to stretch, tear or strain. The ankle ligaments help stabilize your joints and when your ankle is sprained the ligaments are forced beyond this stable range of motion.

Treatment for a sprained ankle depends on the severity of the injury. A medical evaluation by one of our Podiatrists always recommended to determine severity and treatment options. Even if at-home care and over the counter medications may be all you need to heal, it is always wise to make an appointment to be sure there is no underlying fractures.
